NXT UK Women’s Title Fight Set; Blair crushes Amale’s hope

0

This week’s episode of NXT UK saw the inevitable Blair Davenport vs. Amale clash that has been building for weeks.

Between Davenport’s promise to crush all hope, which Amale took offense to, not to mention his lack of respect for the French hopeful left the two on a collision course. Amale launched the challenge last week and here we are.

Before the match, however, we get a rare press conference segment featuring the two women competing for the NXT UK Women’s Championship next week. Sarray and Satomura have been allies since Sarray’s early days in NXT UK, with Sarray showing the utmost respect for the champion but she wants the title.

Sarray begins by expressing how strong Satomura is as a competitor, but she won’t just fold and swears to be the NXT UK Women’s Champion. Sarray is sunrise while Satomura is sunset.

The Final Boss seems amused by this statement and reminds us that many have tried to beat her and failed. She recognizes that Sarray has the ability to challenge but next week she will come out strong again.

On the match, Davenport and Amale initially appear to weigh each other down until Amale takes control and even attempts a first running boot into the corner, a signature of his own. Davenport dodges this and the tide turns in his favor. The comment explains how Amale seems to be trying to keep her cool, her fiery temper seemingly giving her some sort of reputation.

The match spills out to the outside with Amale thrown hard to the mat before Davenport attempts in-ring coverage. She doesn’t get the win but Davenport keeps Amale, carrying her with a few submission holds and a shoulder tackle until she simply brushes Amale with an zuiguri and hands control back to Amale.

Our French prospect makes a comeback with clotheslines and charges Davenport in the corner, goes for his bulldog but Davenport breaks free and kicks Amale in the face. Trying to capitalize on a stunned opponent, Davenport attempts a kick from the middle rope and misses. In a flashback to his injury, Davenport appears to be pinching his ankle but barely has time to register the pain before Amale drives him face first into the mat with a second bulldog attempt.

Amale only gets a two count on an injured Davenport who retaliates with a vicious roundhouse kick to the side of the head. A frustrated Davenport tries to end the match with her Falcon Arrow but Amale turns it into a German suplex and follows up with her face wash in the corner, but it’s still not enough! Rallying the NXT UK crowd behind her, Amale goes for the Hope Breaker but Davenport rolls her for a two count and then times her with a knee to the face.

Davenport catches Amale before she collapses to the ground and puts the finishing touches to the match with her Falcon Arrow, continuing her winning road since her return.

Immediately after the match, Davenport reiterates that she is back to dominate and warns Meiko Satomura to hold on to the gold as she is coming! Blair. For. The. Gold.

In another digital exclusive, the Nina Samuel Show get is an exclusive with our reigning NXT UK Tag Team Champions who don’t seem to appreciate being invited to Samuels’ show or having her on. They at least answer her question before they let her out. Fallon Henley stops our gracious host while retrieving her hat, advising Samuels that she “doesn’t make it”.

And finally, Chase University is going on a trip abroad! The whole class, including Thea Hail, is coming to NXT UK next week

The NXT 2.0 Superstars are seen sightseeing and taking photos, but next week it will all be business. Will we see Thea Hail step into the ring with some of our NXT UK superstars?

I’m a big fan of Amale and I also like Blair Davenport’s in-ring work, both are very solid. This match felt more like a prelude to things to come, I could be me, but I expected more fire and animosity throughout, but the comments sold Amale’s attempts to control her temper, so I assume a reason was given? I really want the two to go head-to-head again and take it to the next level. The match was by no means bad, but I felt like it could have been more.

The timing of the press conference was unique, at least for the women, and I love the big fight feeling. From Twitter and Youtube, a lot of people seem excited for this match between the two and I totally agree.

I avoid spoilers for NXT UK tapings as much as possible, so Thea coming to NXT UK is a fun surprise, I really hope she fights!
