Kane, who has three years of contract left, has become frustrated with the lack of silverware at Tottenham, and the chance to play in the Champions League next season is only a faint hope.
Sources told ESPN that the England striker wanted this situation resolved quickly, a desire born out of the belief that Levy will honor a deal to consider a move more favorably this summer after Kane also asked to leave last year. . He will be 28 at the start of next season and believes he needs to move on to make the most of his best years as a striker.
Kane has scored 165 goals in 243 appearances for Spurs, placing him seventh on the Premier League’s all-time scoring list. With 22 goals and 13 assists, only Bayern Munich Robert lewandowski (40) and Lionel messi (39) from Barcelona have more goals in the top five European leagues this season.
ESPN has assessed the possible moves open to Kane as well as the situation with Tottenham in light of this news.

Manchester United’s interest in Harry kane is not finished because Edinson Cavani signed a new contract, sources told ESPN, but their need for a striker in the summer transfer window is less now that he’s decided to stay.
Cavani has done well this season, but he is 34 and is expected to return to South America with Boca Juniors in 2022. Even at 27, Kane represents a longer term investment and if he becomes clear that he really has to leave Tottenham this summer, United will be in the queue.
There is, however, a feeling at Old Trafford that it will be very difficult for anyone to sign Kane until next season. Sources told ESPN that the fees Spurs could demand, given that Kane has a contract until 2024, as well as Daniel Levy’s reluctance to let his star player go for a summer as he also seeks to appoint a manager.
The perfect scenario for United is that the Kane and Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland – another player admired by boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – stays with their respective clubs for another year and then, if Cavani leaves, they are in a better position to make a big offer. – Rob Dawson
Manchester City’s priority this summer is to sign a striker, and Kane is one of the players at the top of their wishlist, sources have told ESPN. Sergio aguero will leave when his contract expires at the end of the season and Gabriel Jesus have strived for form and fitness, so of all interested Premier League clubs, City’s need is the greatest. It is also believed that Kane would not need a lot of conviction to move to the Etihad Stadium given that his ambition is to win trophies and, under Pep Guardiola, City are the dominant team in English football.
Having scored over 200 goals in all competitions, there is no doubt that Kane has the quality to improve Guardiola’s side. The problem, however, is the transfer fee. City have shown in the past that they wouldn’t be required to pay too much, even for players they desperately want to sign. At a time when transfer fees are skyrocketing, City have yet to pay more than £ 70million for a single player.
While Kane has made it clear to Tottenham that he wants to leave, Levy is in a very strong position. Kane is in his prime and has three more years on his contract; the City may decide to wait. They needed a central midfielder in 2018, but didn’t get Rodri until 2019. When Vincent kompany left in 2019, they needed a center-back, but it wasn’t until a year later that Ruben Dias arrival. The city is clearly prepared to be patient. – Rob Dawson
Chelsea have the funds to sign Harry kane. They remain in the active pursuit of Erling Haaland, who would command a comparable fee if he left Borussia Dortmund this summer. Their need to sign a center-forward is clear given Timo wernerdifficulties this season, while Olivier Giroud is about to leave and Tammy Abraham is likely to follow. However, of all the clubs Levy would like to sell to, the Blues are arguably at the bottom of the list.
There is composure between the boardrooms since the Chelsea chase Luka Modric in 2011. Modric wanted to move to Stamford Bridge and Chelsea made an offer for the midfielder which was rejected, Levy issued an accompanying statement condemning their behavior after the failed offer was made public. Modric joined Real Madrid a year later. In 2013, Spurs believed they had signed Willian Anzhi Makhachkala and even had the midfielder close to completing a move on his training ground, only for Chelsea to overtake them in the eleventh hour.
Kane has a young family – her third child was born in December – and the appeal of staying in London is evident. But on the other hand, Kane’s affection for Spurs is genuine, and it might take a little bit of conviction to play for a rival across the capital; That said, it’s probably not an obstacle that couldn’t be overcome by a huge salary and the ruthless pursuit of trophies at Stamford Bridge.
Either way, Levy is aware of how unpleasant it will be for many fans to see Kane join Chelsea, and so he may have to be convinced to sell for that reason as well. – James Olley
Since then, Real Madrid have no goalscorer Cristiano Ronaldo left for Juventus in 2018 and strengthening in this area has been at the top of the club’s agenda since at least last summer, sources told ESPN. However, their priorities in this position are Paris Saint-Germain Kylian Mbappé and Haaland.
Signing also presents significant challenges, and Kane would be seen as an alternative should he become available. He has been interesting in the past, gaining attention in the 2017-18 season when Madrid and Spurs met in the Champions League group stage. Kane remains highly regarded by top Bernabeu officials, sources say, but at 27 he slipped behind youngster Mbappe and Haaland on the wishlist.
The likely transfer fees involved would also prove difficult for Madrid, who are calculating exactly how much money they will need to spend this summer. The expected Super League windfall – which was to pay for a rebuilding of the squad, including the signing of a superstar striker – will not materialize now, and the club will have to sell players to fund the incoming deals. – Alex Kirkland
Julien Laurens explains the financial difficulties that could complicate Harry Kane’s efforts to leave Tottenham this summer.
Barcelona were looking for a new striker even before leaving Luis Suarez leaving for Atletico Madrid last summer, club sources have repeatedly told ESPN. The Uruguayan’s departure has only served to accelerate their need for a No.9, but the club’s debt prevents them from doing everything possible to achieve their main goals.
The Catalan club have publicly courted Haaland, meeting the player’s agent Mino Raiola and Haaland’s father earlier this year in Barcelona. However, with Dortmund keen to keep Haaland for another season and with the costs involved in any potential deal, Barca may have to look elsewhere.
Kane, with Inter Milan Lautaro Martinez, was mentioned in local media as a possible alternative. Neither would be cheap, however, and sources claim that several dominoes would have to fall for Barca to even consider a move for Kane, who is seven years older than Haaland.
The costs involved in signing Kane, as well as the position he plays, would have a ripple effect on any potential move for Haaland going forward. So sources told ESPN that Barca operate in a different sphere of the market, with talks underway with Memphis depay and Sergio aguero‘s camps. Both forwards are out of contract with their respective clubs next month and could arrive for free. Sources also told ESPN earlier this year that Real Sociedad Alexandre isak was also seen as a “less expensive” option. – Sam Marsden
PARIS SAINT GERMAIN
Coach Mauricio Pochettino is giving PSG an advantage that no other club have – he has managed Kane at Tottenham – but ESPN sources have said PSG sporting director Leonardo will only monitor Kane’s situation.
If Mbappe decides to leave, the club will actively seek a replacement of the same caliber and Kane would be on the shortlist. However, if Mbappe decides to stay, it will be much more difficult to secure the deal financially, especially since Neymar has already signed a new contact. That said, PSG believe they have enough money to keep Neymar and Mbappe and recruit another superstar like Lionel messi or Kane.
Pochettino is preparing for the Coupe de France final against Monaco on Wednesday night at the Stade de France, but he has been informed of Kane’s decision to move. He was a mentor and father figure to Kane at Spurs, made him his first-team debut and would obviously love to be reunited with him.
Pochettino also knows Kane’s agent, his brother Charlie, and while it might be difficult to convince Kane to leave London and the Premier League for Ligue 1, Pochettino would certainly have some weight in Kane’s decision. – Julien Laurens
And finally … the situation in Tottenham
Kane will have agonized over his decision to push away from Tottenham, but in many ways the difficult conversations are starting now.
He concluded that his desire to earn silverware would be better satisfied elsewhere and would prefer a move to another Premier League club. The immediate problem is that Spurs are unwilling to sell and are very opposed to the idea of strengthening a domestic rival.
Levy is a notoriously difficult negotiator. Combined with the importance of selling Kane and the fact that he has three years left on his £ 200,000 a week contract, he has every right to charge a fee of around £ 150million.
Finding a suitable replacement will be a key part of any negotiation. In a comparable situation eight years ago, Spurs signed seven players for a combined fee of over £ 100million before finally sanctioning Gareth Bale’s highly anticipated move to Real Madrid a day before the window closed. ‘summer 2013. – James Olley
